As a result, the city has acquired 200 additional companies that have generated 35,000 jobs in the past 15 years. Between 1990 and 2000, Scottsdale experienced a job growth increase of 30%. It is projected that over the next ten years, the employment base will grow by 21%.
The current business mix in Scottsdale consists of corporate headquarters and regional offices, high tech, research and development, bio-med, business and professional services. For the past 15 years, there have been 1.2 jobs available per Scottsdale resident. The unemployment rate has remained consistently below 4%.
The major portion of the economic base in Scottsdale is made up by the tourism and hospitality industry. However, there are also financial services, healthcare, retail and electronics companies. Major employers include Motorola, PCS, Scottsdale Healthcare, Mayo Clinic and Vanguard.
